What is NFC?

Near field communication is a short-range wireless technology that allows the exchange of information between devices when they are brought together in the distance of 4cm or less. During the process of data transfer, the activator utilizes radio frequency to generate a response from the target, which can be in the form of a tag, a sticker or a card that does not require battery.

Advantages of NFC

The latest NFC technology, which operates at 13.56 MHz and transfers data up to 848Kbits per second, enables a faster and safer way of information exchange than any 1D or 2D barcode system. Instead of optical focusing using phone camera, RF short distance transmission offers users more in control of the process. Connections are speeded as they need not enter codes for verification.

The potential of NFC in customer-oriented industries is unlimited, seeing that passive tags can be applied in interactive advertising, reaching a large group of customers at a relatively low cost.

NFC Tags

The NFC Tags are high frequency RFID tags containing information in NFC-device readable format. The stored information such as a URL, a key code, an ID, good price, are used in Apps to perform applications. NFC Tags are available in roll label form, cards or individual hard tags.

Since NFC tags have similar performance with proximity cards and high frequency tags, they share similar constraints on tagging materials. Objects containing liquid may affect the reading performance. Mount-on-metal (or so called metal-tag) should be used when tagging on metallic surface.
